Revised Horse Passport Law from 1st July 2009

All horses now need a passport.

From the 1st July 2009 EU rules require that every horse must be microchipped when a passport is applied for.

If the passport is not available when a vet comes to treat a horse he/she may not be able to use drugs banned from the food chain (EG: phenylbutazone  commonly known as ‘Bute’), and must use an alternative product.

Your passport must accompany the horse at all times other than when stabled or out hacking.

If your horse does not already have a passport you must apply to an approved Passport Issuing Office. Further details can be found at www.direct.gov.uk/horsepassports.

Microchipping must be carried out by a vet.
